Our model required an additional column to be outputted, so I also changed a few lines in CSVExporter.Java. First, in the method writeCSVHeaders, I added the title of the column I wanted to add. Instead of manually add the column after Synthea runs, I was able to add to the existing code for column generation. This generates a CSV directory in outputs with different categories of outputs (patient, provider, condition, etc.) in their respective CSV files. I wanted the output to be CSV, so I set all of the exporter variables to be false and set to true in the synthia.properties file. My step by step process followed the quick start directions in the repository’s ReadMe, with the exception of changing a few lines in two files. The consumer of the data is an application that helps nurses manage their populations that have cancer. The population size needed to be roughly 200 patients. My assignment was to populate part of our graph database with mock patients that have different types of cancer. Since Synthea’s output is highly customizable, different test cases can be easily generated, again, all on the fly. After development, Synthea can help with load and stress testing. There is no need to pass around a large data file. This means data can be generated on the fly, in a variety of locations. Since Synthea is Gradle-based, multiple properties files can be used to differentiate between environments. Synthea equips teams with the tool to avoid delays. Getting data into multiple environments further complicates this problem. In the past, projects have been delayed because there was not access to real data, or enough data. In addition to security, synthetic data helps development progress without data-related blockers. There is a guide for creating your own modules as well, if a specific illness you want in model is not there. Though I was only interested patients with cancer, Synthea can generate data for over 90 different illnesses from dermatitis to PTSD to appendicitis to dementia. The output can be customized to specific illnesses, locations, and population sizes using the command-line arguments. Synthea has a straightforward CLI tool that interacts with Gradle tasks. The power of Synthea is in simplifying the data generation without compromising on its quality. Not using real PHI maintains the security and anonymity of our members. Though we have access to the data lake, for demonstration and testing purposes, it is best practice to use mock data. We pay for our health insurance, too, so it’s really a win-win. We use the data lake to learn about the health care system to make it easier and more affordable for everyone. At Optum, we store a large pool of PHI in our data lake. Real health care data, or protected health information (PHI) must be just that - protected. Add sensitive to the list of adjectives for a system like healthcare. It is of utmost importance for a complex, and highly connected system. Having access to realistic data is crucial for any kind of modeling. Synthea creates realistic patient data, including the patients’ heath records in a variety of formats, with varying levels of complexity. Synthea is an open-source, synthetic patient generator that models up to 10 years of the medical history of a healthcare system. Plus, the narrative is rooted in the choices you makefrom obvious, story-defining crossroads to seemingly. If you’ve ever wanted to hear someone talk utter nonsense for hours at a time, Biomutant’s narrator is your guy. While Biomutant has a fairly reliable autosave, crashes and bugs are quite common. An elderly sounding gentleman comments on every action your hero makes, relays back every conversation you have, and attempts to piece the game’s convoluted story together. Was it necessary? Not really, but it's there.Īnd then there’s the narrator, who’s bound to be divisive. Embargo Interaction: Embargo your enemies with a new diplomatic interaction, preventing them from trading with you if they have generated enough world. You’ll gain either light or dark aura depending on the answers you choose during dialog and the types of actions you take, and your aura will affect the way the world’s characters approach you and which special abilities you can unlock. The long-in-development game offers a wacky blend of open-world exploration, multiple forms of traversal, a deep martial arts combat system, and choice-driven storytelling all led by your furry, gene-spliced hero. It also adds in gameplay elements just for the fun of it, like a light and dark Aura System. Its still under embargo, but I will say this much its a Tikipod game, so I knew it would be good, but it has still managed to exceed my expectations in. The review embargo lift date for Biomutant is May 24th. Biomutant has the potential to become a hidden gem when it's released on May 25. It’s all pretty straightforward, then, but Biomutant presents these familiar mechanics in such a screwball way that it's hard to dislike it. Biomutant has fun moments, but it stumbles in too many significant ways to make it a wholly satisfying experience Read full review GameSpot Richard Wakeling 6 / 10 Biomutant presents a different take on the post-apocalypse, but a forgettable story and uneven gameplay hold it back. While the majority of combat is performed using melee and range-based attacks, you can also perform Psi-Powers that let you inflict elemental damage to enemies. Biomutant's combat system can be best described as a child-friendly take on Devil May Cry, but it doesn’t provide the same tangible feedback of Capcom’s stylish brawler – even though certain moves are punctuated by comic book callouts. Bonus: Mix Spotify Music with Any DJ App. The MIDI editing tools in DP are superior, IMO. You can live a long and happy life with DP, without ever opening a Environment Window. That matters a lot if you're working with it all day. Despite big improvements with Logic X, the user interface is still nowhere as good and as flexible as DPs. There are no DAWs that do a really good job of conforming a tempo map to freely recorded music, but DP gives a more predictable result if the music is reasonably well played. You're pretty much dependent on experienced users on forums. I doubt anyone at Apple has ever helped a Logic user with a problem. MOTU supports DP better than Apple supports Logic. DP has an elegant means of handling multiple sequences. That could change with the next Logic X.x update, but for now, whenever I use Logic, there will be something that doesn't work as expected, and you just don't know if it's a user error or a bug. Logic is easier to deal with if you're doing a lot of bounces. Logic makes it easier to set up VIs although that comes with some limitations. I think the sounds are excellent given the price. Logic's included sounds and players, especially EXS24 can be very quick and convenient if you want simple tunes that sound slick. Logic is cheap and everywhere, everyone can do something with it, and third party stuff will work with it more often (with the exceptions noted below). I use DP if I have a simple choice, but from watching how others work, I think the preference depends a lot on what sort of work you're doing, and which one can most easily and quickly do what you want.Ī few things I experience on a regular basis: I use both regularly mainly because people I work with use Logic, so it's hard to avoid. "We have a point on the line there that's called Inspiration Point because the view is just inspiring, and that is really the first time that you get the oohs and ahhs from a lot of the customers that aren't from around here," said Johnston.Ĭloser to the summit, there's a clear view of the Continental Divide on the left side of the train, and Colorado Springs to the right. The real show starts as we climb above treeline just past the 5 mile mark. Downhill, it can only max out at 8.5 mph.Įarly on, we see lush forests, large boulders and beautiful waterfalls. Traveling uphill, the train reaches a top speed of 10.5 mph. It's a surprisingly smooth 1 hour and 10 minute ride to the summit. The train ride to the top of the mountain climbs more than 7,700 vertical feet on nine miles of track. Our adventure begins at the newly renovated depot, elevation 6,320 feet. "We took an 1890s built building and upgraded it with all the modern amenities that customers require now," said Johnston.Īs for the depot, Johnston jokingly says that it's a blend of Bavarian and Victorian style architecture. In addition to new track and new trains, the depot also received some much needed TLC. "It's exciting! It's a bit of a relief, everything that we worked for the last three and a half years to finally have the doors open again, have customers on trains, it's been everything we hoped for and more," said Johnston. Three and a half years later, Johnston tells News 5 that they couldn't be happier to see the trains back in operation. and about 40 in the world," Assistant General Manager Ted Johnston said.Īs you may recall, the train closed down in 2017 to undergo major infrastructure improvements. "Not many 14,000 foot mountains have a railroad going up the side of it, and we're lucky enough to have one here at Pikes Peak. It's the world's highest and longest cog railway. MANITOU SPRINGS - In our exclusive new series Adventures with Alan, we'll travel across Southern Colorado week-by-week to show you thrills and chills, hidden gems and well-known spots.Įntertaining guests since 1891, the Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway is a unique, one-of-a-kind experience that takes riders from the foothills of Manitou Springs to the top of Pikes Peak. Worse still, you’re often forced to sit in a cart, boat or another form of transport while it slowly, and I mean slowly, gets you from point A to point B. It gets particularly painful in the back half of the game when you’re tracking down the aforementioned McGuffins, which need to be delivered to a hub area that takes an age to get to before you can unlock the next location. It’s all too frequent that you’ll be required to solve a portion of a puzzle, travel to another location, interact with an object and then make your way back to where you were to continue on your way. The content itself is a cause for the excessive length, but so too is the amount of needless backtracking that the game forces you to do. Almost three times longer than it should’ve been, Forever felt like an exhausting marathon that would have been more suited to be a fun sprint. I feel as though you should be able to knock out a game with mechanics like this in one sitting, or two at a stretch, but unless you’ve got an entire day free, that just won’t be possible here. Now, I’m all for getting bang for your buck, but Forever took us 13 hours to complete, which only resulted in fatigue. While this did lead us to some interesting new spots, it also doubled the game time. In a clever move, the game gives you a satisfying noise cue whenever you successfully solve a puzzle, which is handy and very gratifying.Īs Holly and I worked through a tough puzzle in the game’s fifth or sixth hour, we figured we had conquered the mountain and gained our freedom, before we were told that we needed three McGuffin items to power a machine that would aid in our escape. A good laugh will be had as you and your mate attempt to describe a shape by saying things like “it looks kind of like a TIE Fighter, but with the top bit of the cockpit missing” or “it’s a man, with a body that looks like an X…oh, it’s an X-Man!” Those are two examples of Holly and I perfectly relaying what we could see.įrom lining up symbols on a circular door with the rings to deciphering cryptically worded clues that lead to specific gravesites, the puzzles largely hit the mark and end with one or both parties putting the pieces together and audibly going “ahh, that makes sense.” My favourite had one person listening to a creature and describing its weird speech to the other, as they attempted to translate the gibberish and provide a response. Most of the puzzles in your path are comprised of unconventional symbols, shapes and images that you’ll first need to accurately describe to your partner before you have any chance of piecing together the solution. It’s simple and effective, introducing you to the game’s main selling point in a gentle way.įorever builds on this formula in some interesting ways, while also bringing the two players together several times to physically cooperate, though the game is at its best when you’re far apart. In the opening moments, you’ll both be shown fairly simple shapes that correspond to a lock on your partner’s side. Luckily, Forever’s onboarding is a slow incline, not a throw into the deep end. Having only one half of the question, let alone the answer, it could be hard for some pairs to get a grip on what’s needed to progress. Largely separate from your puzzling partner, you’re each armed with a walkie-talkie and are required to communicate to push towards freedom. If you’re like me and this is your first introduction to the We Were Here series, let me get you up to speed. Clever and tricky, Forever continues the series’ trend of interesting puzzles, but its drawn-out length and overreliance on backtracking may cause some to call it quits before the credits roll. The fourth game in the series, We Were Here Forever, returns to Castle Rock with a host of new puzzles, new environments and new challenges for a clever (or persistent) duo to overcome. Reminiscent of these brain teaser chambers, the We Were Here series (which debuted in 2017 with a free offering) has two players working cooperatively to solve puzzles and escape a spooky castle. The atmosphere is engaging, the time restriction is thrilling and the puzzles require you to work in tandem with the friends that you enter with. Their heyday might be in the rear-view mirror now, but I genuinely enjoyed the escape room craze while it lasted. |
